Exclusive Interview with John Corabi, 24.01.2006

(by Vladimir Ilyin)

I am impressed by your voice. When you realised for the first time you have really unique voice?

I was in a cover band when I first started playing in public... I was the guitar player. I would give the singer a break during the night, and we found that the people responded to the songs I sang more, so the other guitar player made me the singer.
Congratulation on your web-site launching! What do you think about Internet?
I like it. It's a way for artists like myself to stay in close contact with the fans. Unfortunately, I get so many emails everyday, that I can't answer them all. I also don't like that really personal parts of my life are usually broadcasted on the internet, and that bums me out!!!
What's new in the world of John Corabi?
Just in the process of finishing my book, with writer Jake Brown, and I'm writing for my record. I've also been writing music for some country recording artists in Nashville. I've launched a new web-site, that your readers should check out.the address is...www.John-Corabi.net
I heard ESP would play in Japan in February, but also Bob Kulick would be there. What it's mean, ESP would perform with 2 guitarists or Bob want to play like a solo artist with you? Please explaine.
Bob Kulick is coming as a special guest..He'll do a Q&A session, then when E.S.P. plays, he'll come and maybe play a song or two with us... Should be fun!!!
Do you still have a beard? What the reason you wear beard?
I have a little goatee, right now... I just wanted to grow a beard, cause I never had one before... It's funny how so many people are interested in that kind of thing though!!!
You currently come back from Union European tour, what do you like most from this tour?
I always have fun in Europe!!!! I LOVE IT THERE! I just love everybody's enthusiasim about the show... Now my next goal in life is to play in RUSSIA!!!
How the name for the band Union was born? Who give this name to the band?
Brent Fitz named the band, It was basically the union of Bruce and myself...We liked it because it was simple, and it had meaning to us!!!
You partnered up with long time Kiss guitarist, Bruce Kulick. When and how for the first time you meet with Bruce Kulick?
I met Bruce and his ex-wife when I was in Motley. They used to come to my house and get their hair cut, by my ex-wife. When Motley let me go, to get Vince back, Nikki suggested to Bruce, that him and I should write together... So Bruce called me, and the rest is history as they say...
Lets' talk about Motley Crue...
OK....
After a tour of the States, Motley Crue retreated to the studio to begin writing a second album with you, which would never see a release. Can you explaine why?
Motley and I worked on material for about two years, for what was to become their Generation Swine release.  The record company (Elektra) was not going to promote anything the band did unless they got Vince back. So they told me they wanted Vince back in the band...
Do you have any material you written by you in Motley Crue but never released?
There is some material, that was un-fininshed, that I've been looking at for my solo record, so maybe everybody will finally hear it in the near future... We'll see.
Which album of Motley Crue without you is the best?
I like the first two records, for the raw vibe and image, but as far as hit songs, you can't deny the Dr.Feelgood record...
On your web-site I read about you want to record long awaiting solo-album. Couple years ago I heard from Spitfire Records about release of your solo-album. Do you have already some songs written for this solo album?
Yes I do... I'm sorry it has taken so long, but I went through some personal things, and it kind of side-tracked me for a while... I'm just now getting my head out of my own ass, so I'm really excited to get started again, and finally finish what I started...
Are you already find musicians for working with you on solo album?
I've got a few in mind. I've also gotten alot of support from some friends, and I would like them to play on my record... People like Jerry Cantrell, Billy Duffy, and Billy Gibbons. I'm really excited about whats happening now... So stay tuned!!!!
Tell us about your son's band. Did you help him to play guitar?
I'm really PROUD of my son Ian. His band is doing really well, They are selling out alot of the clubs they play, and they just finished filming a movie with Mariel Hemingway. They are REALLY HEAVY!!! I don't get alot of the vocal things they do, but the music is really great, and his drumming is awesome on the CD... If you like hard-core metal, you should check them out on MySpace.com. The band is called " FATAL EMBRACE".
Name the album you have bought last?
I bought two records... The sensational Alex Harvey bands greatest hits... and another band I don't remember the name, but it's new, and it consists of members of the Queens of the Stone Age...
Except the music, than you like to do in free time?
I like to hang with my son, and my girlfriend Ashley... We watch TV, and just do normal things... movies, clubbing, and SEX!!!!!!!!!!!!
Where you was on 9/11? Is it change your life?
I was in Tuscan, Arizona on tour with Ratt.  I think 9/11 has changed EVERYBODYS life... It made Americans realize, that terrorism isn't something we just see on T.V. now. It's on American soil, and it makes me sad that ANYONE has to resort to such DRASTIC measures to get a point across. There have been thousands of innocent people killed in America, and Madrid, England, and the Middle East, because our "leaders" are fucking IDIOTS that can't resolve their issues through conversation... in an adult manner!!!! It's a very sad state...
Are there things in this world that still impressed you today?
I don't want to get too political, but the thing that impresses and amazes me is this... We as humans are in a really tough time right now... With the war and terrorism, and just the overall dis-trust that most countries have with each other... Yet, anytime there is a Natural disaster, or something catastophic in the world... ( like the Sunami, or hurrican Katrina) Everyone around the world, of all races and religions, manages to put their differences aside, even if it's just a few days, and they work together, to help those in need... And it just goes to show me that we CAN work togheter and be "friends" and do great things when we WANT to...
Is there anything else you want to say to the Russian KISS fans, your fans and all people into music?
To the Russian KISS fans... I would love nothing more than to come and play my music for you. I want to visit your country, and meet you all... Hopefully that day is coming SOON!!! Enjoy life, and keep your music LOUD!!! Peace Out.
